June is here and soon half of the year will be over. Have you accomplished the goals that you wanted to achieve by this point in time? Are you on track with the others? Did you start out strong and get sidetracked or lose momentum? You’re not by yourself. It happens all of the time.
Typically only about 3% of people have written goals and plans for reaching them. Out of that 3%, about 90% actually reach their goals. The key is the plan. There is power in the process. We’ve reached a milestone as far as the process of this year going by, so it’s time to look at where you are and assess the situation. The good news is that there’s still time to accomplish what you want if you’re willing to plan your work and work your plan.
So where are you? Struggling to reach your goals and sidetracked? Maybe you’ve lost your momentum. Where ever you are in the process is okay, so don’t beat yourself up. Just acknowledge where you are, determine what you want to do and recommit. As you do, there are a few things to think about:
- Did you only create goals or did you create a plan to carry them out?
- Were the goals you created solid and S.M.A.R.T.?
- Do you have a clear understanding of where you want to go?
- Have you involved others in the process? If not, who can support you?
- What do you need to do next? Create or revamp your plan? Be more realistic about how much time it’s going to take to accomplish your goals?
If you find that you have to go back and revamp your plan, start with the end in mind. “He who determines the end, provides the means.” – Benedetto Varchi. Look down the road to the accomplished goal and then work your way back to see what things have to come into play for you to get to the end of the road. What resources do you need? What milestones will you cross? Create or tweak your plan with these things and include all of the details in your plan. Once your plan is complete, break it into smaller pieces to take daily or weekly steps toward each of your goals.
